Basic tasks for your BlazeMeter account
Now that your account is set up, you’re ready to start exploring BlazeMeter. You’ll begin with a few simple tasks that help you get access to your account, understand your role, find your way around the BlazeMeter interface, and start working with tests. These first steps set you up to collaborate with your team and use BlazeMeter with confidence.
Run your first demo test
Anyone that signs up or is invited to a workspace sees a welcome screen to run a demo performance test. Run the demo test using the BlazeMeter demo URL (or enter your own website's URL) to see how performance tests run in BlazeMeter.
Accept and send a workspace invitation
If you are invited to a BlazeMeter workspace, the mail
icon appears in the right-side menu. Click the mail icon to see and manage pending invitations.
You can invite users to your workspace by sending them an invitation. Click the Invite new members
icon in the right-side menu to send invitations to join your account or to review pending invitations.
Manage your settings
You can change settings for your account and workspace in the right-side menus of the navigation bar.
Click your name to open the drop-down menu containing:
- Personal Settings—Opens your account settings where you can manage your account details, password, and authenticator.
- Log out—Log out of your account.
Click the Cog icon
at the top right of the BlazeMeter UI to open the Settings.
- Personal Settings—Create your API Key, change your password, change your default test location, or choose a different time zone.
- Account Settings—Manage users, workspaces, billing, and more.
- Workspace Settings—Manage team sharing, external connections, and which users work in which workspaces.
View a different account
Click the name of the account to open the Accounts menu. The Accounts menu displays the name of the account you are currently viewing. This menu only appears if you are a member or owner of more than one account (such as a personal account and corporate account).
You can change which account you are viewing by clicking the account name to see all accounts you are a member or owner of and selecting a different account.
Switch between Workspace and Admin views
If you are an account admin, you can choose between Workspace and Admin view. Workspace view is selected (blue) by default. When you are in Workspace view, you can view everything in your workspace: tests, reports, and more. But, as an account admin, you can select Admin view to see admin-specific information and all currently running tests.
When a test is running, the view shows the Test name, Test type, the Project, Workspace where it is located, and other information, including who ran the test.
Work in a different BlazeMeter component
The default component when you log in to your BlazeMeter account is Performance. You can work in any of the four components of BlazeMeter in your workspace by selecting the component from the first row of the navigation bar.
Create your first test
Now that you set up an account, you are ready to create your first test! To get started, we cover creating Functional Tests and Performance Tests. You can always edit your test set later with Service Virtualization or API Monitoring.
If you have the Performance tab selected, click Create Test to see the following options:
- Performance Test—You can upload your own script, or enter URL/API Calls for a no-scripting option. Performance Tests run via Taurus, which supports various types of testing tools, including JMeter, Selenium, Gatling, and others. You can even provide your own Taurus YAML configuration file.
- Multi Test—You can run multiple Performance tests (multiple scripts) simultaneously by executing a Multi Test. Each test (script) runs as a separate scenario within the Multi Test. This can be especially useful for larger-scale situations and even allows for adding additional load while the test is running. Multi Test is only available for Enterprise users.
- Recorder—You can record HTTP(s) actions you perform on a website using the proxy recorder. The recorder auto-generates a test script from that recording. Alternatively, record the test using our BlazeMeter Chrome Extension.
If you have the Functional tab selected, click Create Test to see the following options:
- GUI Functional Test—You can test the functionality of your web application's graphical user interface (GUI). Upload an existing Selenium script, or easily record a Scriptless Test using our BlazeMeter Chrome Extension. It supports assertions, Service Virtualization, and Test Data.
- Test Suite—You can use the same test case with several test suites.
